The Alliance to stand socialist candidates for the city council

We’re AIMING to register 100 Supporters in Every Glasgow Ward

Our history of solidarity

Glasgow citizens have always fought to win change for the better. In tenants’ associations, community campaigns, trade unions and social movements, we defend one another and stand up for a better future. Our city has birthed ideas that changed the world, and our parents and grandparents stood arm in arm to defeat greedy landlords, cruel bosses, and governments that hated our working-class solidarity.

The people ruling the City Chambers turned their back on that history long ago. But it’s our shared inheritance – and we can use it to save our city.

Our city is being looted

Because Glasgow is being looted. A tiny wealthy elite are making off with the city’s wealth, gutting the local services that we all rely on and destroying the things that make Glasgow a unique place in the world.

Homes sit empty. Work doesn’t cover living costs. Social security is so weak that households need foodbanks to survive. High streets have closed shops, or stores that you could find in any big city around the world.

Schools don’t get what they need to help our children reach their potential. People don’t get the social care they need. Roads fall apart. Buses are too dear and too few. Parks and pavements aren’t maintained. People don’t feel safe. The city’s historic buildings are left to rot and burn. People feel ignored, disrespected, and made to feel that they are to blame for the way things are.

It’s all part of an unjust, rigged system that puts private profit before people.

We can build a better future together

But a movement of people who want to safeguard Glasgow is building across the city. In workplaces, in homes, in community halls, and on the street – people are continuing our city’s historic struggle for a decent life for all. We want that movement to win power in George Square.

At the next council elections, we will stand candidates who will never vote for cuts to vital public services. We will fight to take wealth and power from privileged hands and put it to work for the people of this city. We will work to build a prosperous Glasgow where everyone has what they need to build a decent life.

We reject the politics of hate and division. Our city is 850 years old, and has been a home for migrants all that time. Racist lickspittles want working-class people fighting each other rather than the wealthy people that fund their politics. We stand for the shared interests of all working people – and we won’t let anyone scapegoat our newest citizens for the failings of an unjust, corrupt economy.

We are the people of Glasgow, we know our history, and together we are the only force that will build a better city for all of us.
